Great guy indeed...he helped me out on some of my old Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo events...love the guy!

We saw him when he was pitching for the Colt45s

I have been watching Larry since I was a kid and he pitched for the Colt 45’s. He is a good guy and great man

Cool pic Matt! Hey, and look at your face!

I love it!

Great picture 😎

That’s soooo cool!

Jealous!

Astros 2019 from Matt Davis

It is late night, technically early morning after the Astros fell short in game 6. I am 38.5 years old. It wasn’t until I was in my twenties when the guys made their first World Series. That one didn’t go too well, but it was still exciting. I was still so proud of those guys. Then in 2017, we weren’t the favorite, but we went all the way. It was my favorite sports moment of my life. We weren’t supposed to win, but we did. There were just too many guys on that team that wouldn’t let us lose. So they didn’t. I cried huge tears as I watched Jose Altuve throw the runner out at first base. Seriously. I cried for 15 minutes. I wasn’t expecting that. They were a bunch of guys who were having the most fun times of their lives, playing the greatest game that anyone ever made up. I want to emphasize “playing.” They worked hard in the gym, in the cage, in the pen. But, when those guys took the field, they played. That is the only way to do baseball. You play it. I have never seen a group of grown men have so much fun. And, they won it! Baseball is supposed to be fun.

Right now I am tense, nervous, uptight, whatever. I want 2019 so badly. I wanted them to to take it in 6. That didn’t happen. I am so proud of the team this year. They have had an amazing season. One of the best ever. Tonight they will take the field and put a season of 175+ games all on one game. I believe they will do it.

I believe they will because they are not only the best team, but because they will show up to “play.” They aren’t going to “work.” They are gonna play. If Benny from the Sandlot movie was gonna give them a pep talk, he would say, “Just have fun. Play more than them. If you have more fun than them during the game, you will have more fun at the end.”

I believe in Zack Greinke. I believe in Altuve, Alvarez, Yuli, Bregman, Reddick, Chirinos, Correa, Brantley, AND most of all I believe in George Springer.

I probably won’t sleep tonight. I was once a kid in a photo sitting on my dad’s shoulders outside of the Astrodome. Now I am older than my dad was in that picture and I love Houston and the Astros even more than I did way back then. I love my dad more too. The most fun conversations that we have have are about baseball. We share a love. You know, some people make fun of sports. They don’t get it and that is ok. However, what the hell is wrong with something that is healthy, fun and draws a father and son closer? Or starts friendships?

Here is to the Houston Astros. At MSC we love you guys no matter what, but we already know how it ends.

Two years ago we lost the greatest. I shed many tears. One of the greatest things about recorded music is that it never dies. Every day I can still hear what he sounded like and the way that he crafted songs. It never gets old. Missin’ you, Mr. Petty. Thanks a million. #Tompetty @danaypetty
