We get that there is a ton of construction in the area โ€“ but itโ€™s temporary. Your actions can last forever.

We get that there is a ton of construction in the area โ€“ but itโ€™s temporary. Your actions can last forever.April 15 marks the beginning of #NationalWorkZoneAwareness week. Last year the Dallas area had more than 1,116 traffic crashes happen in work zones. Those crashes happen feet away from our crews working to improve the road. We get that there is a ton of construction in the area โ€“ but itโ€™s temporary. Your actions can last forever. #DFWTraffic #NWZA2024

Diane specifically wanted to stop in Port Arthur to see the hometown of Janis Joplin, and found us!This character is Diane Pizza (Yes, that's her real last name ๐Ÿ˜ƒ). Diane is from the San Francisco Bay Area. She came to Texas to watch the solar eclipse and is taking the long way home, visiting friends, family, and interesting places along the way. Diane specifically wanted to stop in Port Arthur to see the hometown of Janis Joplin, and found us!

And boy, are we glad she stopped here! Diane is full of awesome stories, like the time she was walking around San Francisco in the 60s and went into a strange building only to find Janis Joplin and the great Big Mama Thornton practicing together, playing "Ball and Chain" to an empty room. She's not sure if they were performing together later or what, but WOW! What a once in a lifetime experience!

Thanks for sharing your stories with us, Diane! She's also a photographer, and you can check out her work here: dianepizzaphotography.com ๐Ÿ’œ

Today in Texas History: On this day in 1965, the Houston Astrodome in Houston, Texas opened its doors, when the Houston Astros played the New York Yankees. The Astrodome was home to many sports, including the Houston Oilers. Fans gathering from around the world to watch sports, concerts, and many other events.

Probably the most famous day in Astrodome History is when George Strait, whose career was launched in 1981 at the Astrodome, became the last performer in the Astrodome history in the 2002 during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. NRG Stadium opened the following year next door.

Sadly, the Astrodome has since been empty and has become an eye sore. The mystery of what to do with the Astrodome is still yet to be decided. The City of Houston has declared it a historic landmark and its considered โ€œthe eighth wonder of the worldโ€.
